Awards Data

Evidence-based policy making requires hard data. This is important to our work and to that of our stakeholders.

At QQI, we collate timely and comprehensive data on awards obtained by:

  • Award type

  • Gender

  • Age

  • Fields of learning

Awards Analysis

We supply national awards data to the Department of Education and Skills for supply to the Unesco, OECD and Eurostat international databases.

We also supply data to the Skills and Labour Market Research Unit in Solas, as part of their work for the Expert Group on Future Skills Needs.

As part of this work we analyse the award data and publish a report each year. This provides headline data and trend data and reveals further detail according to Award Type and Level, Fields of Learning, Region and Age.

We publish statistics in relation to both higher and further education and training awards. Please click the link on the right for access to downloadable spreadsheets, analysis and reports.

Award-Types

There are a number of award-types available in further and higher education and training:

  • Certificates are awarded for the achievement of major awards, where learners achieve the national standard in a prescribed number of component areas

  • Component Certificates are awarded for the achievement of individual areas, which can stand alone or build towards the achievement of a full certificate

  • Special Purpose Certificates are awarded for the achievement of individual areas, which are for specific, relatively narrow purposes

  • Supplemental Certificates are awarded for the achievement of individual areas of learning that are additional to a previous major award undertaken
