Re-engagement with QQI

Relationships with Providers

We work with a diverse range of private and public providers and institutions in further and higher education and training as well as in English language teaching.

Our relationships with these providers vary. For some, we act as an awarding body and external quality assurance body. For those that make their own awards, we are an external quality assurance body only.

The 2012 Act ensured these relationships with providers were maintained until replaced by new quality assurance (QA) arrangements with QQI. We use the term 're-engagement' to describe this transition.

The policy documents that relate to reengagement are:

Re-engagement for each provider is intended to be a one-off occurrence which establishes its QA procedures with QQI in accordance with either Section 29 or 30 of the 2012 Act.

The re-engagement process will vary in approach depending on the sector involved.  The links below set out how the various sectors will participate.

Higher Education Institutions

In 2016 and 2017 QQI completed re-engagement with higher education institutions through a process of reporting and dialogue on QA procedures.  The lists of public higher education institutions that have concluded the re-engagement process with QQI are available here.

Education and Training Boards

QQI completed re-engagement with the Education and Training Boards (ETBs) through a process of reporting and dialogue on QA procedures in 2017-2018.

Further information about the process, including the listed 16 ETBs that have concluded the re-engagement process with QQI, along with links to their published QA policies and procedures, is available here

Independent and Private Providers

In Spring 2017 QQI began holding regional briefings for all independent and private providers to explain the re-engagement policy and describe the proposed process.  QQI will pilot the re-engagement process in 2017 to test its efficacy before going live.  Further details about this reengagement process can be accessed here.
