Certification

Issuing Certificates

QQI is an awarding body. This means we facilitate providers of education and training programmes in issuing certificates (parchments) to people who have reached the standard for a QQI award.

The certificate is a formal confirmation by QQI that the named person has demonstrated the knowledge, skill and competence required to achieve the named award.

In order for learners to obtain a certificate, certain conditions must to be met:

  • Provider’s programme must be validated by us

  • Provider must assess learners in a fair and consistent way

  • Learners must achieve a pass/successful grade or higher in their assessments.

All certificates issued by us list awards on the NFQ (National Framework of Qualifications). This ensures the certificate is nationally and internationally recognised and has many potential uses; for example, for further / higher education or employment in Ireland or abroad. What We Do

Our Awards and Certification Unit, in cooperation with providers, produces certificates for many thousands of learners every year.

Providers use our secure online system to submit learner, award and result details. The unit then produces certificates which are sent to providers who issue them to learners. This takes place six times a year.

We also publish statistics in relation to both higher and further education and training awards made each year here. We also publish infographics please click here to view.

Security

Our certificates carry invisible security features to ensure they cannot be copied or changed. It is not always possible to reissue a certificate so it is important that learners keep it safe, so it is available when needed.

Other Awarding Bodies

There are many other awarding bodies operating in Ireland. For instance, universities and institutes of technology and some professional bodies make NFQ awards.

There are also many UK and international awarding bodies operating in Ireland, many of whom also have recognition in the NFQ.
