Award Recognition

Important update May 2015

Owing to uncertainty about its legal power to recognise awards within the Framework, QQI has suspended the implementation of these interim arrangements.

Interim Arrangements

QQI has recently developed policy on the alignment of professional awards to the NFQ (National Framework of Qualifications).

We are now developing more general policy on recognition in the NFQ of other awards. Interim arrangements will apply until the implementation of this new policy.

Please note, this page does not provide information on the recognition of international qualifications. This information is available through our Qualifications Recognition Service.

Circulars

The circulars below outline the interim arrangements for recognition in the NFQ of FET (Further Education and Training) awards made by specific awarding bodies other than QQI.

These arrangements involve specific programmes offered by:

  • Institutes of Technology

  • SOLAS

  • The National Tourism Development Authority

  • Teagasc

  • An Bord Iascaigh Mhara

  • An educational or training institution established and maintained by an Education and Training Board

  • A recognised school in so far as it provides adult, continuing or vocational education or training which leads to an award

1. Above-listed Providers, apart from Institutes of Technology

Please note, other providers offering validated programmes leading to FET awards may, under certain circumstances, avail of exemptions recognised under these arrangements in QQI-validated programmes leading to awards in the Common Awards System.
